Although many people take home computer networking as a serious thing, it is quite a direct process. Almost all the modern operating systems such as Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux support home computer networking and they offer easy wizard type dialog boxes for beginner to configure a home network. Let's see the essentials for setting up a home network.
You will require two or more PCs / laptops in order to create the home computer networking. The PCs that need to be unified expected to have network interface cards installed. Since the most of the modern PC come with a default network interface, you may not have to worry about this. Next, you will need a network hub or a router. Although both these devices do the same thing when it comes to home computer networking, they are employed in two different scenarios. A standard Ethernet cable alone will not work. You either need a crossover cable, or a ethernet hub (with 2 standard cables). A WiFi access point will work as well.
Either way, you'll also need to use FTP or File Sharing to transfer the files across.
If your configuration allows it, I'd recommend mounting the old hard drive in an unused bay in the new computer.
