Vizio XVT3D650 Review
Read Vizio XVT3D650SV Review below to make you sure before you buy this TV set.
So you know where I'm coming from, I'm replacing a 50" Samsung plasma. I have a quantity of various sized flat panels savings around your house and a home theater in the basement. I just had the 720p Mitsy projector replaced using a Sony (STR-DA3600ES) in addition to Avatar on Blu-Ray blew everyone away (108" display). I consider myself a great enthusiast, but in no way a specialist. Anyway, onward...
Out of the container experience - Fantastic. The box is stunning, the instructions on the superior tell you how to easily (for this type of big TV) unnecessary the clips and sleeve-off the actual box.
Set up - Could not be simpler. Quick start guide is usually accurate. Instructions manual is in English only, not 7 languages, and is plainly composed, not some computer converted Chinese. I couldn't get the Vizio remote to regulate the DirecTV box though. Will have to search for a code I suppose. Not a biggie. Will get it. (Edit: Thanks to AVS Community, someone pointed out I've got to have my receiver collection to RF mode in Remote control set up. I changed it to be able to IR, and voilà, all set. I had to "Try Your next Code" to get up to Code 4. All set). Luckily, my 2-year old radio is 3D ready - HR21-700. DirecTV said just "plug this in, the receiver will walk you from the set up once it recognizes the 3D TV". Not quite right, for me anyway, but a restart of the receiver and I was working.
2D-HD - I commenced with Kill Bill 2 on TNTHD plus it looked great. Some HD looks a lot better than others, not surprisingly. For example, 30 Rock must use some sort of softening lens.
AppleTV (720p) - YouTube looks a little better than I thought it will. From Apple's movie listing, previews of 300 and also the Bucket List looked well-defined. Netflix streaming looked just like it did on the 50" Sammy, and that's a a valuable thing. Photos from Mobile Me via my iPhone seemed great.
3D on DirecTV : Started with n3D, which I now realize is very analogous to Mark Cuban's HDNET back in the early days of HD. It's where you should go for the fun original impression. A lot of scenic/nature articles. It impresses right away.
Family take - 11-year outdated boy loves it. Despicable Me in three dimensional is wow-ing him. 15-year old daughter as well. I prefer the top quality glasses, but the kids like the basic ones. Daughter's friend was tickled the basic (flat) a pair of glasses fit over her eye-glasses. Wife's first reaction was good, then made a comment concerning this making her cross-eyed, then backed up and also liked it. She is also the majority of impressed with Despicable Everyone and says it feels less gimmicky than earlier 3D experiences (where something just jumps out at you sometimes).
3D sports - My spouse and i downloaded the National Championship game (Auburn versus Oregon) via DirecTV and although I favor it better than your active shutter, I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer an ordinary crisp HD for sporting activities. I watch a load of sports, and my initial a reaction to sports in 3D with both passive 3D (this set) and active 3D (one other available 3D technology) is mixed at this era.
Vizio 3D Blu-Ray person - Started with Dinosaurs, IMAX Under The Sea, Alice in Wonderland, and Polar Express. The player is quick and intuitive with all the Internet app screen since the main screen. Disney's Alice in Wonderland is usually fabulous and I'm many surprised by how pleasing the image depths are usually. IMAX Under The Sea has got the cool IMAX 3D number countdown at the beginning - fun. The sea images give "whoa" reactions on the family. This is THE three dimensional Blu-Ray to throw inside first - Jim Carrey narrated as well as beautiful. The tech of the slide falls away after a few moments and the experience is immersive next. The player is clever.
3D thoughts, as this set can be passive 3D (compared to active 3D)
Passive 3D gets almost everything right it claims, IMO. The glasses are gentle and easy. It's nice they tend to be inexpensive (I bought10 sets of RealD glasses via Amazon for $25 10 - Pairs - Brand new Sealed - 3D Circular Polarized 3D Glasses just like RealD for Disney Digital -Legend in the Guardians (10 Sets) -they work great). Also easy to remain and glance down inside my lap top here and there. I surely don't wish I was concered about the active 3D syncing, battery life, and if someone could sit on them. My brother-in-law walked with and I tossed a pair of glasses across the room. He slapped them with and said "Wow, that's awesome". He also has 3 kids under 6 yrs . old. No way he ever buys $100 glasses (and that is what the active version of 3D requires) for that bunch.;)
The knocks on passive 3D are a little over stated in my opinion. You'll find these concerns when you surf around the net researching 3D TV options.
- Claim: "Black lines" - These are (barely) generally there, however, they only are appreciable in case you get within 3-4 feet in the screen. I liken it for the screen door effect. If the TV is big enough and you also get close enough, you'll see them. This concern ended up being a no-big-deal item.
- Claim: "Turning head sideways wrecks the 3D" - not a chance. Not an issue.
- Claim: "The 3D-ness severely degrades along with off-angle viewing" - Not personally. It does lessen a little though. Otherwise, walking around the room offers a yoyo-ing 3D image which in turn follows you. Cool.
- Claim: "Half resolution" thing - Didn't even happen to me when watching it. No comments from spouse and children about less of anything in terms of picture quality goes.
- Claim: "Cross talk" - Definitely not seeing it. Maybe if some one pointed it out in my opinion?
More thoughts...
It is high gloss and I will see where a heavily windowed room could possibly be an issue. Fine for me with flanking windows and a (non-windowed) wall facing it.
Make sure your space are designed for a 65-incher. I'd recommend being a minimum of 8 ft away, with 10+ ft getting better. This thing is huge.
I think I'm officially spoiled by HD and after this 3D as standard def is getting harder to watch. Not sure if this can be the TV or just everyone.
Final thoughts...
My ordered list of priorities as i bought this TV were size, price point, and then 3D. Well, the size is significantly (just not a little bit) larger than my 50-incher - check. The price was right at 3G's - verify. The 3D has absolutely exceeded my expectations - check. The 2D has met my hopes as I'm very happy with the black levels (although there're not as deep as being a plasma). For me, this is a wonderful gen-
Vizio 3D TV. I'm sure future years provides 4K2K and improved tech, but at a price tag. For today, this hit the position and was an incremental development over my 2-yr aged Samsung plasma.
Update (7/5/11) : After 5 months, I had to come back and bump my ranking from 4 to 5 personalities. Long gone are the days of over-analyzing this TELLY. The longer I bought it, the more I appreciate it. No regrets. (Tip: Get Tron Legacy three dimensional. O-M-G).
I need to know how to hookup a directv receiver model D11,a JVC Th-C60 and my Hitachi-UltraVision 42" Plasma
I need to know how to hookup a directv receiver model D11,
a JVC Th-C60 and my Hitachi-UltraVision 42" Plasma HDTV-42HDS69. Pictures on how
the cable connections should be hooked up would be nice.
STEP ONE:
Box up the plasma and sent it to me.
Just kidding....I have no idea how to do this but be sure to get a DTV with Tivo. Life will so much sweeter.
